SOLDIERS KILL OVER 200 TERRORISTS, ARREST 284 IN APRIL OPERATIONS
The Defence Headquarters says troops recorded major successes in ongoing operations across the country in April 2026, killing 216 terrorists, arresting 284 suspects, and rescuing 188 kidnapped victims.
The Director of Defence Media Operations said troops also recovered large quantities of arms and ammunition during the period while dismantling several terrorist camps and criminal hideouts.
According to him, “During this period, the Armed Forces neutralised over 200 terrorists in multiple engagements, rescued 188 abducted civilians, including women, children, the elderly, farmers, and worshippers, and restored them to their families. Troops also stormed and destroyed terrorist camps, IED-laden hideouts, and illegal arms production facilities, while arresting 284 key ring leaders, logisticians, and collaborators.”
In the North-East, troops killed 136 terrorists, arrested 144 suspects, rescued 18 victims, and recorded nine surrenders. In the North-West, 24 terrorists were neutralised, 32 suspects arrested, and 70 victims rescued, with one surrender recorded.
In the North-Central, troops killed 21 terrorists, arrested 17 suspects, and rescued 10 victims. Under another operation in the same region, 18 terrorists were killed, 48 suspects arrested, and 53 victims rescued, while a separate operation recorded 14 terrorists killed, 40 suspects arrested, and 35 victims rescued.
In the South-South, troops arrested 17 suspects, dismantled illegal refining sites, and recovered over 101,000 litres of petroleum products. In the South-East, three terrorists were killed, 16 suspects arrested, and two victims rescued.
The Defence Headquarters said the outcomes reflect ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist capabilities and restore security across the country, adding that troops remain committed to operating within international humanitarian law and rules of engagement.
It urged Nigerians to continue providing credible intelligence to support military operations and encouraged responsible media reporting to counter misinformation and terrorist propaganda.
