SOKOTO LG CHAIRMAN RESIGNS FROM OFFICE, QUITS APC
The Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Isa Kalanjeni, has resigned from his position and defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In separate letters dated May 5, 2026, Kalanjeni announced his resignation from the APC with immediate effect and stepped down as council chairman, citing personal and administrative reasons. The letters were addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward and the Secretary of the Tangaza Local Government Council.
The development has sparked discussions within Sokoto’s political circles, especially as the state gears up for future elections. Kalanjeni’s exit from both the ruling party and his executive position comes at a time of shifting political alignments in the Northwest region.
Party sources indicated that while the resignation was accepted, it has raised questions about internal dynamics within the APC at the local level. Kalanjeni has not publicly disclosed plans for his next political move.
This latest defection adds to a series of political realignments in Sokoto State, where several notable figures have recently switched parties or stepped down from positions amid preparations for the 2027 general elections.
