The Sokoto State Government has assured members of the Community Guards Corps that concerns over operational equipment, administrative documentation and welfare are being addressed.

The Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, Col Ahmed Usman (retd.), gave the assurance while responding to concerns raised by personnel of the corps.

Usman said the state government had provided vehicles, motorcycles and other logistics to support security agencies, including the Community Guards. He acknowledged, however, that security operations require continuous provision of equipment and other resources, adding that identified gaps would be considered through the appropriate channels. 

On concerns over ammunition, the adviser described the matter as sensitive and regulated, explaining that procurement and allocation are handled through official channels.

He also addressed complaints concerning appointment letters, saying the Community Guards Corps was established by state law while the formalisation of personnel engagements remained an administrative process involving relevant government agencies.

Regarding welfare, Usman said the government had supported some families of guards who died while serving and would continue engaging with affected families.

He urged members of the corps to channel complaints through established mechanisms and maintain discipline, while assuring them that legitimate concerns would be directed to the appropriate authorities.

The government also called for continued cooperation between community guards, conventional security agencies and residents in tackling security challenges across Sokoto State.
