SOKOTO GOVERNMENT DONATES N100M FOOD ITEMS TO BANDITRY, BOAT ACCIDENT VICTIMS
The Sokoto State Government has donated over N100 million and 408 bags of assorted food items to families affected by bandit attacks and a recent boat accident in Wurno and Goronyo Local Government Areas of the state.
The intervention was announced on Monday during a condolence visit by a government delegation led by the state APC leader and former governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko. Families of victims who died in bandit attacks in Dinawa and Birjingo received N1 million each, alongside bags of maize, millet and rice, while injured victims received N250,000 each and food items. At Gorau, where 65 people reportedly died in a boat mishap, bereaved families also received N1 million and assorted food items.
Speaking during the visit, Wamakko, who represented Governor Ahmed Aliyu, expressed sympathy with the affected families and assured residents that the government would continue supporting security agencies in the fight against insecurity. He cited the recent provision of 62 armoured vehicles to security agencies and urged rural communities to cooperate with security personnel.
Wamakko also urged the bereaved families to accept the deaths as the will of Allah and prayed for the deceased and their families. At Gorau, he conveyed the governor’s directive for an immediate ban on boat overloading, directing local government authorities and the district head to enforce the measure to prevent further accidents.
The delegation also visited Tsamaye in Sabon Birni Local Government Area to condole with residents over the death of the local APC chairman, Alhaji Amadu Malale. The delegation included Deputy Governor Idris Gobir, Minister of Labour and Employment Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of State for Works Bello Goronyo, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Tukur Bala Bodinga and other senior government officials.
