‘SOCIAL MEDIA IS BECOMING UNSAFE’ – IRETI DOYLE SPEAKS ON LONG ABSENCE
Veteran Nollywood actress, Ireti Doyle, has opened up about her decision to step away from social media, describing the space as increasingly toxic and unsafe for her peace of mind.
The 58-year-old screen star, who has been noticeably inactive online for several months, made a brief return to Instagram where she explained her reasons for withdrawing from public digital platforms.
She wrote, “I used to wonder what I’d do with myself once I became an ‘empty nester’… now I know. Had to disappear again. The streets of social media (nay, the world in general) are becoming too toxic for my quiet soul. How have you been? I hope you’re protecting yourself?”
Born on May 3, 1967, in Ondo State, Ireti Doyle spent a significant part of her early life in Boston, United States, before returning to Nigeria. She later earned a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Jos.
Her professional journey began behind the camera as a producer and presenter, notably creating and hosting the fashion and lifestyle show Oge with Iretiola for a decade. She also anchored television programs such as Morning Ride on STV.
Doyle’s acting breakthrough came in the late 1990s, leading to an illustrious career featuring roles in films like Sitanda (2006), Across the Niger (2009), and Torn (2013). Her remarkable performances have earned her several awards, including Best Supporting Actress at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
She was previously married to broadcaster Patrick Doyle, though the marriage later ended in divorce.
