Abeokuta — The Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has released six female recruits from its training camp after routine medical checks revealed they were pregnant before enrollment.

The State Corps Commander, Retired Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, announced the dismissal following a pregnancy screening conducted for approximately 125 female recruits. He emphasized that the decision reflects the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the health of its personnel and upholding high standards of discipline and professionalism.

According to Adedigba, the three-week training program is physically intense and could pose serious health risks to pregnant women, including the danger of miscarriage or developmental complications for unborn children.

“Our training is physically demanding. It would be unsafe to subject pregnant women to such rigorous activities, as it may endanger their health and that of their babies,” he stated.

He described the decision as difficult but necessary to maintain a safe training environment and reaffirmed the agency’s broader goal of ensuring public health and safety.

Despite their dismissal, the Corps Commander praised the six women for their enthusiasm and willingness to serve. He assured them of the opportunity to rejoin the corps in future recruitment exercises after childbirth.

“We respect their commitment and are hopeful they will return stronger. Their desire to serve is admirable, and we look forward to welcoming them back once they’re ready,” Adedigba said.

Amotekun reaffirmed its dedication to providing a training environment free from health risks, ensuring that all personnel are fully prepared to meet the physical demands of the role.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
