Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu, a community in the Kano metropolis, are in deep shock following the brutal killing of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by unknown assailants.

The tragic incident was discovered around 8:00 PM on Saturday, when the woman's husband returned from work and found their house locked from the outside. Suspecting something was wrong, he forced the door open, only to discover the charred bodies of his wife and child inside.

Eyewitnesses and residents described the scene as horrifying, noting that the victims appeared to have been attacked before their bodies were set ablaze.

Community leader Ahmad Sani expressed deep concern over the lack of security in the area. He revealed that residents had previously constructed a police outpost through communal efforts, but authorities had yet to deploy officers to man the facility.

"For a long time, the community has constructed a police outpost, but no personnel have been posted there," Sani said. "If officers had been stationed, this tragedy might have been prevented." He appealed to the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Bakori, to urgently deploy security personnel to the outpost to improve safety and prevent further attacks.

When contacted on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation had begun. "Yes, the incident happened, and we are currently investigating the matter," Haruna said in a WhatsApp response.

This killing has renewed concerns over violent crimes in Kano State. Earlier this year, Trust TV reported the murder of Rumasau Shuaibu, a five-month pregnant woman who was allegedly stabbed to death with a kitchen knife in the Farawa area of the state. Police stated that investigations into that case are ongoing as well.

Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu are now calling for urgent security intervention, justice for the victims, and stronger measures to protect lives, especially those of women and children.
