Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday arrived in Kwara State to visit Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area following a deadly attack that claimed the lives of at least 75 residents.

The visit was carried out on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to a statement by the Vice President’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha.

Nkwocha said the President mandated Shettima to assess the situation firsthand and deliver the Federal Government’s condolences to the bereaved families.
“The President has directed that the Vice President visit the affected community to evaluate the situation and convey federal condolences to the grieving families,” he stated.

Upon arrival, Shettima was received by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq alongside other top government officials.

Governor AbdulRazaq had earlier described the victims as local Muslims who were “massacred for refusing to submit to extremists preaching a strange doctrine,” while earlier reports had placed the death toll at over 100.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday night, was reportedly triggered by the community’s rejection of attempts by militants to forcibly indoctrinate residents.

Earlier, Nkwocha disclosed that the Vice President departed Abuja on Saturday bearing assurances from President Tinubu that the Federal Government would ensure justice for the victims.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
