SHETTIMA TURNS 60, ASKS NIGERIANS TO GIVE TO THOSE IN NEED

Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked Nigerians, friends and supporters not to spend money on gifts or celebrations for his 60th birthday.

Shettima, who turned 60 on Wednesday, made the appeal in a statement shared on his X account, urging those who wished to celebrate him to channel the money they intended to spend towards charities, causes or people in need.

The Vice President said reaching the milestone had strengthened his belief that birthdays should be marked by generosity rather than material celebrations.

He reflected on the support he had received throughout his life, noting that people often benefited from the kindness of family members, friends, colleagues, teachers and even strangers.

According to Shettima, such support creates a responsibility to extend kindness to others, particularly people who may not have the opportunity to repay it.

He encouraged Nigerians who wanted to honour him to consider supporting someone in need instead of buying gifts or organising elaborate celebrations.

Shettima also asked Nigerians to make prayers the focus of his birthday, particularly prayers for his wellbeing and for the country.

He called for prayers for peace in communities, prosperity for Nigerians, wisdom for leaders and the fulfilment of Nigeria’s potential.

The Vice President said acts of kindness, regardless of their size, could make a meaningful difference in the lives of people facing difficult circumstances.
