SHETTIMA HEADS TO INDIA AS NIGERIA SEEKS STRONGER BRICS ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIPS
Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in India to represent Nigeria at the BRICS Summit, with the Federal Government seeking to use the high-level gathering to deepen Nigeria’s trade, investment and economic relationships with major emerging economies.
Shettima’s participation is expected to provide Nigeria with an opportunity to engage leaders and senior officials from BRICS member states and other participating countries on areas of mutual economic interest. The Nigerian delegation is expected to promote the country as an attractive destination for investment while highlighting opportunities in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, agriculture, energy and technology.
The Federal Government is particularly interested in expanding trade relations and attracting fresh investments from countries within the BRICS economic bloc. Nigeria has continued to seek partnerships that can support its economic transformation, increase foreign direct investment and create opportunities for Nigerian businesses to access larger international markets.
The summit also provides an avenue for Nigeria to strengthen its engagement with emerging global economic powers at a time when the country is pursuing greater diversification of its economy. Discussions around financing, technology transfer, industrial development, energy cooperation and trade are expected to feature prominently as Nigeria explores ways to strengthen economic ties with BRICS countries.
Shettima’s visit is therefore expected to go beyond Nigeria’s participation in the summit itself, with the delegation seeking bilateral meetings and other engagements that could produce concrete economic partnerships. The Federal Government hopes that deeper cooperation with BRICS members will help attract capital, expand Nigeria’s export opportunities and support the country’s broader development and investment objectives.
