SEVEN SUSPECTS ARRESTED OVER BAUCHI POLYTECHNIC HOSTEL ATTACK
The Bauchi State Police Command has finally tracked down the gang responsible for the violent robbery at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, which left students injured and property stolen.
The midnight attack happened on August 12, when armed men stormed a student hostel, injuring some students and carting away valuables like phones, laptops, and power banks. The incident sparked protests from students, who demanded better security, leading to clashes with police officers.
After weeks of investigation, the Police Spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil, announced on Friday, September 12, that seven suspects had been arrested. The suspects, all young men from different areas in Bauchi metropolis including Lushi, Birshin Fulani, and Birshi Gandu, confessed to their involvement.
According to police reports, the suspects were notorious for breaking into homes across Bauchi, using dangerous weapons and flashlights to intimidate their victims. They not only robbed residents of their belongings but also injured anyone who resisted, and sometimes fled to nearby states to avoid arrest.
Among those arrested are:
Mansur Yakubu (20), also known as Chasu, from Lushi
Abbas Auwal (20), also known as Abe
Musa Bala (20), also called Baban Nani, from Lushi
Aliyu Ahmadu (21), also known as Yellow, from Lushi
Zurkalaini Aliyu (20), also known as Baki, from Birshin Fulani
Muftahu Ibrahim (20), also known as Dodo, from Lushi
Hamza Bala (29), also known as R-Kelly, from Lushi
The suspects also named 13 more accomplices, including one Adamu Muhammad, a.k.a. Daddy, who was arrested earlier on September 1 by detectives at Yelwa Divisional Police Headquarters.
Police say Daddy was the mastermind of the operation, coordinating about 20 gang members from across Bauchi. He admitted to selling some of the stolen phones—an Oppo, a Samsung, and an Infinix—for ₦40,000 through an associate.
The Bauchi Police Command has assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining gang members and restore peace to the community.
