SERGIO BUSQUETS TO RETIRE FROM FOOTBALL AT END OF 2025 MLS SEASON
Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets has announced he will retire from professional football at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
The former Spain and Barcelona star confirmed his decision in a video shared on Instagram, where he reflected on a career spanning nearly two decades.
“I feel like it’s time to say goodbye to my career as a professional soccer player. It has been almost 20 years of enjoying this incredible story that I always dreamed of,” Busquets said.
Busquets, 37, is widely regarded as one of the greatest holding midfielders of his generation. He enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Barcelona, winning multiple LaLiga titles, Copa del Rey crowns and Champions League trophies.
On the international stage, he was part of Spain’s golden generation, lifting the 2008 and 2012 European Championships as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Busquets joined Inter Miami in 2023, reuniting with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba. His retirement will mark the end of an era for both club and country, leaving behind a legacy defined by intelligence, consistency and silverware.
