SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL, BORNO URGES PARENTS

The Borno State Government has launched a strong appeal to parents and guardians to send their children back to school as the new academic session begins.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the State Ministry of Education, the government warned that keeping children away from school remains a punishable offence under the Compulsory Free Basic Education Act.

“Education is the bedrock of development. We urge all parents to prioritise their children’s future by ensuring they are enrolled and attending classes regularly,” the statement read.

The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts by Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration to rebuild and strengthen the education sector, which was severely impacted by years of insurgency.

The state has recorded significant improvements in school enrolment and infrastructure, with hundreds of schools rehabilitated and new ones constructed.

Education officials have also warned of strict monitoring by task forces to identify and sanction parents who violate the compulsory education law.

Parents are encouraged to take advantage of the free education policy and various scholarship programmes introduced by the government.
