SENATE SUSPENDS CONFIRMATION OF KINGSLEY UDEH AS MINISTER OVER LACK OF SECURITY CLEARANCE

The Senate on Wednesday suspended the confirmation of Kingsley Udeh as minister following the absence of a mandatory security clearance report.

The decision was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary. Akpabio explained that the confirmation could not proceed until the upper chamber received the required security documentation on the nominee.

“The confirmation of the minister-nominee would have been next on the list, but we need security clearance,” Akpabio told lawmakers during the session.

The Senate President emphasized that the legislative body would not confirm any nominee without due diligence and proper clearance from the relevant security agencies.

Udeh, who hails from Enugu State, was nominated earlier in the week by President Bola Tinubu for ministerial appointment. The President’s request for his confirmation was conveyed in a letter read by Akpabio on Tuesday.

With the suspension, the Senate is expected to resume consideration of Udeh’s nomination once the security report is received.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
