SENATE: NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN STILL SUSPENDED, NO RETURN UNTIL AFTER RECESS
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, remains under suspension and will not return to legislative duties until the Senate reconvenes in two months.
This clarification was made on Tuesday by the Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.
His comments followed shortly after the Senate barred Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan from participating in legislative activities at the National Assembly in Abuja.
“The Senate and the National Assembly as a whole have a significant role to play. We are legislators, not spectators or content creators. What began as content creation has now escalated into a full-blown drama,” Adaramodu said.
“The senator is still under suspension, and that status will remain unchanged until the Senate returns from recess.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 following what was described as a breach of Senate rules, stemming from a dispute over seating arrangements and an allegation of sexual misconduct she made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio—a claim he has publicly denied.
Despite her attempt to resume legislative duties on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, she was denied entry into the chamber.
