SENATE CLARIFIES POSITION ON ₦210TN PROBE, DISTANCES SELF FROM KYARI ARREST WARRANT, REBUKES OSHIOMHOLE
The Senate has clarified its position on the ongoing investigation into alleged ₦210 trillion discrepancies in the oil sector, distancing itself from reports suggesting that a formal arrest warrant was issued against former NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.
Lawmakers said while investigations into the matter are ongoing, the upper chamber did not directly authorize any arrest warrant, stressing that due legislative procedures must be followed in all oversight actions.
The clarification comes amid public debate following comments by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who had spoken on the issue during a recent political engagement. Some of his remarks were said to have been misinterpreted as reflecting the official stance of the Senate.
In response, Senate leadership cautioned against the politicisation of sensitive investigative processes, urging public figures to be measured in their statements to avoid misleading the public or undermining ongoing legislative work.
The Senate reiterated that its committee handling the probe is still gathering facts and engaging relevant stakeholders, including former and current officials, to ensure a thorough review of financial records and sector operations.
Lawmakers also emphasized that no conclusions have been reached, and all individuals involved will be given fair hearing in line with parliamentary procedures.
The upper chamber assured Nigerians that the investigation is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
As the probe continues, attention remains focused on how the Senate balances oversight responsibilities with due process in one of the most closely watched investigations in recent times.
