A joint assessment team comprising officials from the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society has conducted an on-the-spot evaluation of communities affected by recent flooding in Gadanaji Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The devastating flood wreaked havoc on homes, farmlands, and community infrastructure across several communities, including Gada, Tsitse, and Gilbade.
Local representatives — Kabiru Usman (Gada Ward), Sahabi Abdullahi (Tsitse Ward), and Ahmed Tambari (Gilbade Ward) — explained that the assessment aimed to help the state government and humanitarian agencies deliver timely relief materials and develop long-term recovery plans for affected residents.
Led by the Sokoto SEMA team, the joint mission identified numerous displaced households and extensive damage to farmlands.
According to preliminary findings, the flood affected 2,814 persons, leaving 11 people injured and claiming the lives of two children and one elderly person.
Several public structures were also damaged, including a mosque at Dantudu Bobawa and schools such as Damarki Primary School, Tunga Primary School, and Musuki Primary School.
