In a major breakthrough against criminal activities, security operatives in Anambra State have destroyed a suspected Eastern Security Network (ESN/IPOB) militia camp in Aguluezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area.

The raid, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, September 2, 2025, was carried out by a combined team of the Police, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups.

According to the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation turned into a fierce gun duel that lasted over five hours. While several militia members managed to escape with gunshot wounds, their stronghold was completely dismantled.

Recovered items from the camp included a white Lexus 470 SUV and multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which security officials described as a major threat to public safety.

Ikenga further assured residents that the area has been stabilized and remains calm, adding that surveillance and monitoring are ongoing to prevent any resurgence of criminal activities.

“The Anambra State Police Command reassures Ndi Anambra of its unwavering commitment to sustaining the fight against criminality and restoring peace across the State,” Ikenga said.

Authorities also confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
