SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS URGE PARENTS, GOVERNMENT TO UNITE FOR BETTER EDUCATION

The All Secondary School Teachers Union has called for stronger cooperation between parents and government authorities to address challenges affecting secondary education in Nigeria. The union stressed that improving the quality of education requires the joint efforts of teachers, parents and relevant government agencies.

The teachers noted that parents have an important role to play in supporting the academic and personal development of their children, while government must provide the necessary facilities, learning materials and conducive environments for teachers to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

The union also emphasised the need for parents to maintain regular communication with schools and take greater interest in their children’s academic progress and behaviour. According to the teachers, closer cooperation between homes and schools would make it easier to identify and tackle problems affecting students before they become more serious.

On the part of government, the union called for continued investment in secondary schools, including improved infrastructure, teaching resources and the welfare and professional development of teachers. It noted that adequately supported teachers would be in a better position to provide quality education to students.

The union maintained that education should not be treated as the sole responsibility of teachers, arguing that parents, government and other stakeholders must work together to build a stronger school system. It urged all parties to put the interests of students at the centre of their decisions and actions.
