S’COURT JUDGMENT: NO LEADERSHIP VACUUM, PDP FACTION SLAMS WABARA, OTHERS
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed claims of a leadership vacuum following a recent Supreme Court judgment, insisting that its National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, remain in charge.
The factional National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, made this known while addressing a press conference in Abuja, stating that the party’s leadership structure remains intact and fully operational.
He also argued that the tenure of former Board of Trustees Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, had already expired before the current crisis, warning against what he described as misleading claims.
According to him, the Supreme Court judgment delivered on April 30 only invalidated the Ibadan convention and dismissed an appeal filed by a rival group, without addressing issues of suspension or expulsion of party officials.
He stressed that the ruling did not create any leadership gap or justify an interim takeover by any organ of the party.
The faction accused some party leaders of misrepresenting the court’s decision and spreading false narratives to create confusion within the PDP.
It further maintained that there is no provision in the party’s constitution empowering the Board of Trustees to assume control of party leadership.
The group urged the public and the media to disregard claims suggesting otherwise, describing them as attempts to destabilise the party.
The development follows a split decision by the Supreme Court, which voided the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, intensifying internal disputes within the party.
