SARAKI URGES UNITY, SAYS S’COURT VERDICT ENDED PDP LEADERSHIP CRISIS
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has called on leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to embrace unity following the Supreme Court’s recent judgment, describing it as a turning point for reconciliation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued through his media office, Saraki said the ruling has effectively resolved the leadership dispute within the party and should now shift focus from litigation to rebuilding.
He urged the PDP leadership elected at the March 29, 2026, national convention to treat the judgment as an opportunity to restore stability and refocus on electoral success.
“There is now only one PDP, and we should all unite and work for the success of our party across the 36 states and the FCT,” he said.
Saraki admitted he had earlier warned that the party should have adopted an interim arrangement instead of proceeding with the Ibadan convention, which he said contributed to the crisis later resolved in court.
According to him, the Supreme Court ruling has now clarified the leadership structure, which he said is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He called on aggrieved members who had taken the matter to court to return and participate in rebuilding the party, stressing that reconciliation should take priority over internal divisions.
Saraki also urged the PDP’s National Working Committee to focus on discipline, unity, and democratic principles as it prepares for the 2027 elections, describing the party as still a “viable platform” for national leadership.
The former Senate President added that the focus should now shift to strengthening the party across all states and presenting a united front for future elections.
