SANWO-OLU WARNS LAGOS RESIDENTS AGAINST ATTACKS ON ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents to stop verbally or physically assaulting government enforcement officers, warning that all grievances should be addressed through the proper authorities.
The governor appealed for the 2025 Stakeholders’ Engagement on Physical Planning themed “Planning Permit: The Rebirth”, organised by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA).
Speaking through his Deputy Chief of Staff, Sam Egube, Sanwo-Olu reminded Lagosians that physical planning officials perform their duties in line with established laws and regulations and therefore deserve public respect.
“Residents are warned against verbal or physical attacks on officials. Aggrieved members of the public should channel complaints through established government platforms. Civility, dialogue, and adherence to due process are the hallmarks of a functional society that seeks sustainable development,” the governor stated.
He further assured that his administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the safety of both citizens and government officers, while striving to build a more resilient and orderly Lagos.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olumide Oluyinka, reaffirmed the government’s determination to protect lives and property.
“Despite the frequent challenges faced by LASPPPA officials during enforcement, the government will not relent in ensuring that no physical development takes place in the state without the required approvals,” Oluyinka said.
The governor’s remarks come amid increasing reports of confrontations between enforcement officers and residents during regulatory exercises across the state.
