SANWO-OLU SEEKS STRONGER US PARTNERSHIP TO DRIVE LAGOS INVESTMENT, TECHNOLOGY

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has held discussions with Massad Boulos, Senior Special Adviser to United States President Donald Trump on Africa, as part of efforts to strengthen economic relations between Lagos and the United States.

The meeting took place at the US Department of State in Washington, D.C., where both sides explored opportunities for increased investment and stronger cooperation in technology and other areas of economic development.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed the meeting in a statement shared on his X account on Friday, explaining that the discussions focused on ways to deepen Nigeria-US relations and use the partnership to create more opportunities for Lagos.

The governor said his administration was particularly interested in attracting additional investment into the state while developing stronger technology partnerships that could support economic growth and improve the quality of life of residents.

According to him, stronger ties between Nigeria and the United States could provide Lagos with access to new investment opportunities, expertise and partnerships capable of supporting the state's development ambitions.

Sanwo-Olu said the discussions with Boulos were centred on building relationships that would produce practical benefits for Lagos residents rather than simply establishing diplomatic connections.

He added that the Lagos State Government would continue to seek partnerships with international stakeholders that could create employment opportunities, expand businesses and contribute to the state's economic development.

The governor also stressed the importance of technology cooperation, particularly as Lagos continues to position itself as a major economic and innovation hub in Africa.

The meeting comes amid Sanwo-Olu's ongoing engagements with investors, business leaders and policymakers in the United States as he seeks to attract more foreign and diaspora investment into Lagos.

During his Washington visit, the governor has also engaged with members of the Nigerian diaspora and business leaders on opportunities for deeper partnerships with Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu has consistently promoted Lagos as a major destination for investment in sectors including infrastructure, technology, finance and other areas with significant growth potential.

The latest engagement with Boulos is therefore expected to strengthen discussions around economic cooperation between Lagos and US interests, particularly in investment and technology.

The governor reaffirmed that his administration would continue to pursue international partnerships capable of creating tangible opportunities and improving living conditions for residents.

He said Lagos would remain open to collaborations that could strengthen its economy and further establish the state as a leading business destination in Africa.
