SANWO-OLU FLAGS OFF 670M ROAD PROJECT

The Lagos State Government has commenced construction of the 670-metre Adebayo-Akinade Road in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and boost economic activities in rural communities.

The project was flagged off on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu by the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Nurudeen Agbaje, on Wednesday.

Agbaje said the project was part of the administration’s broader rural development programme aimed at improving connectivity and reducing the pressure that pushes residents towards major urban centres.

He said better road infrastructure would help open up communities, improve movement and create an environment where businesses and other economic activities could thrive.

The Adebayo-Akinade project follows the recent approval of six other road projects in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area and Ifelodun Local Council Development Area.

Agbaje urged residents and community stakeholders to protect the construction site and avoid activities that could obstruct the contractor.

He also charged the contractor to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe and ensure that the road meets the required standard.

Stakeholders in Igbogbo-Baiyeku welcomed the project, linking it to the wider development of Ikorodu and surrounding communities.

A member representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Aro Moshood, commended the state government for extending infrastructure development to communities previously regarded as rural.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Kikelomo Bolarinwa, also said road infrastructure and other social amenities were important to improving economic activities and living conditions in rural areas.

The Adebayo-Akinade Road is the latest in a series of road projects launched under Lagos State’s rural development programme, with other interventions also underway across Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Ifelodun.

The government said the projects are expected to improve accessibility, support local businesses and strengthen economic opportunities across the affected communities.
