SANWO-OLU: ATTACKS ON LASTMA OFFICERS WILL BE MET WITH FULL FORCE OF THE LAW
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has issued a strong warning to individuals assaulting officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), declaring that such acts will be met with the full wrath of the law.
Speaking through his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, at the Second Lagos Traffic Conference—an event celebrating LASTMA’s 25 years of service—the governor reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for any form of violence against the traffic officers who work tirelessly to keep Lagos roads in order.
The conference, themed “Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations,” also served as a moment of reflection and forward planning for the future of traffic management in the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the bravery and commitment of LASTMA officers, many of whom face daily abuse, threats, and dangerous situations while managing the city’s ever-busy roads.
“Your uniform is the thin yellow line between road order and chaos,” he said. “Your courage and resilience keep Lagos moving.”
He also paid tribute to officers who had died in the line of duty, calling them true heroes and assuring that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
Looking ahead, Sanwo-Olu outlined his administration’s plan to transform LASTMA into a tech-savvy agency equipped to deal with the challenges of urban traffic.
The state will be investing in cutting-edge technologies including:
Artificial Intelligence-powered traffic systems
Automated number plate recognition
Drone surveillance for real-time traffic monitoring
These innovations aim to reduce congestion, improve safety, and enable faster response to traffic incidents across the state.
