SAHA QUESTIONS ARSENAL’S £55M MOVE FOR GYOKERES: “HE’S NOT A SKILFUL PLAYER”
Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has admitted he was surprised by Arsenal’s decision to sign Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres this summer.
The Gunners paid around £55 million to secure Gyokeres from Sporting CP after his impressive goal-scoring run in Portugal. Since arriving at the Emirates, the striker has already netted three goals in four Premier League games, but Saha still has his doubts.
Speaking to Flashscore, the Frenchman described Gyokeres as “not a skilful player” and questioned whether he fits Arsenal’s traditional style of play.
“I’m surprised in some way – because he is definitely not a skilful player. He has a direct profile that Arsenal are not well known for. It can work. Arsenal have not played as good football as we know them, that’s probably the way Mikel Arteta wants to play. Gyokeres is the solution for that,” Saha said.
He added that Arsenal’s wingers still don’t provide enough crosses, which could limit Gyokeres’ impact, even though he believes the Swedish striker could eventually prove useful in Arteta’s system.
Before joining Arsenal, Gyokeres built a strong reputation at Sporting CP, where he scored an impressive 97 goals in 102 appearances across all competitions.
Now, fans and pundits alike are watching closely to see whether the £55m man will silence the critics and prove to be the missing piece in Arsenal’s attack.
