RIVERS TRUCE: FUBARA'S KEY SUPPORT GROUP DISBANDS AND REBRANDS FOR PEACE
Port Harcourt, Rivers State – In a significant move signaling a deepening commitment to peace in Rivers State, the "Simplicity Movement," a prominent support group for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has officially dissolved and rebranded itself as the "Rivers Grassroots Movement" (RGM).
This action comes in direct response to Governor Fubara's call for all political structures operating in his name to realign with the ongoing peace process.
Launched exactly one year ago at the Kalabari National College (KNC) field in Buguma, the Simplicity Movement quickly grew to encompass members across all 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State. Its dissolution and rebirth as the RGM were announced during a major stakeholders' meeting held in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Sobomabo Jackrich, the National Leader and convener of the group, emphasized that their decision was purely voluntary and driven by a sincere belief in Governor Fubara's leadership. "Our action was not motivated by inducement, expectation, or political reward," Jackrich stated. "It was a voluntary, sincere, and deliberate demonstration of solidarity and belief in a leader who, from day one, placed Rivers people at the centre of governance.”
Jackrich highlighted that while the Simplicity Movement is ending, its core values and vision will continue under the new Rivers Grassroots Movement.
He explained that the RGM will operate as a non-partisan civic platform dedicated to civic engagement, peace-building, grassroots empowerment, and policy advocacy.
The group also took the opportunity to commend the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, for embracing reconciliation. Reaffirming its loyalty to Governor Fubara, Jackrich declared, "We are not in opposition. We are not a faction. We are Rivers people. We are patriots. We are builders of peace." He further stressed that the RGM would remain under the guidance of Governor Sim Fubara.
Other leaders present at the meeting echoed the call for all supporters across the 23 LGAs to maintain peace, discipline, and unity as Rivers State strives for stability and progress. This latest development has been widely welcomed, with various groups, including the Rivers Elders Forum, commending the peace efforts and urging for the full reinstatement of Governor Fubara. This rebranding signifies a new chapter in Rivers State politics, prioritizing unity and the well-being of its people.
