RIVERS SHUTS SCHOOL OVER TODDLER’S DEATH
The Rivers State Government has suspended Wisdom Gate International School following the death of a two-year-old pupil, Wynne Akekue.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on March 17, 2026, when a bookshelf fell on the child while she was asleep in her classroom, leading to fatal complications.
The State Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, said the decision to shut the school came after an independent investigation and engagement with the school’s management.
He stated that the school would remain closed until all issues surrounding the incident are fully resolved.
The child’s parents had earlier accused the school of concealing details about the incident, an allegation the school denied, stating it was cooperating with authorities, including the police.
The government expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue.
