A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has restrained the Chief Judge of the state from receiving or taking any action on impeachment notices issued against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The ruling follows a move by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who on Friday formally asked the Chief Judge to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy.
The lawmakers had reached the decision through a unanimous vote and declared their intention to proceed with the impeachment process.
However, the court’s order has effectively halted the exercise, pending the determination of further legal proceedings.
