RIVERS APC WOMEN LAUNCH WARD-LEVEL MOBILISATION AHEAD OF 2027
Women leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State have commenced a grassroots mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 general elections, with activities extending to wards and communities across the state. The initiative was launched during a Tinubu-Shettima 2027 Grassroots Mobilisation and Voter Sensitisation Programme held under the theme, “My PVC, My Power.” The programme focused on strengthening party structures at the local level and encouraging eligible citizens to participate in the electoral process.
Representing the Director of Women Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Betta Edu, at the event, Precious Alechi Iyeuwa urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and remain actively involved in their communities. She said the mobilisation should reach every level of the electoral structure, with political engagement taking place from polling units to wards and communities. Iyeuwa also called for peaceful, responsible and informed participation while urging APC women to engage residents and communicate the party’s policies and programmes.
Iyeuwa specifically called on the women to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, as well as Rivers APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chindah, his running mate Major Jack and other candidates of the party. She said women had an important role to play in voter education, community engagement and political participation because of their reach within families and local communities. She added that grassroots mobilisation should involve listening to the concerns of residents and explaining the administration’s policies and vision to them.
Rivers APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, who served as chief host of the programme, also urged party members to strengthen their organisation at the grassroots. He said effective participation by women could influence engagement within families and communities and contribute to stronger democratic participation. The event also featured remarks by Prince Chibudom Nwuche, Chairman of the Governing Board of the South-South Development Commission and a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who encouraged APC women to maintain contact with communities and communicate government programmes to residents.
The programme brought together APC women leaders, party executives, ward and local government coordinators and other stakeholders involved in the party’s mobilisation activities. The Rivers initiative forms part of a wider women-led mobilisation programme being undertaken by the APC Presidential Campaign Council in different parts of the country ahead of the 2027 elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections in participating states are scheduled for February 6.
