RETURN AND APOLOGIZE — WE’LL FORGIVE YOU, ABURE TELLS LABOUR PARTY DEFECTORS
Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has called on party members who have aligned themselves with other political parties to return home and make peace.
Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday, Abure emphasized that although Nigeria’s constitution allows freedom of association, the Labour Party does not permit dual membership.
Abure said the party is closely monitoring the actions of members who are “romancing” rival political platforms and hinted that disciplinary steps could be taken at the right time.
He, however, extended an olive branch, urging all aggrieved members to put their differences aside and reunite with the party.
“Our doors are open,” he said. “They should sheathe their swords and come back to the house. If they come back and apologise, we are ready to forgive them because we believe that there is no victor and there is no vanquished.”
Abure also used the opportunity to highlight his role in building the Labour Party into what he described as a national political force.
His remarks come amid ongoing tensions and defections within the party, especially following the 2023 general elections.
