RESIDENTS PROTEST AS GUNMEN KIDNAP WOMAN IN ONDO COMMUNITY
Residents of an Ondo State community on Monday staged a protest following the abduction of a woman by suspected gunmen, expressing outrage over rising insecurity in the area.
The protest erupted hours after the incident, which reportedly occurred when armed men stormed the community and whisked the victim away to an unknown location. Details of the abduction remained sketchy as of press time, but eyewitnesses said the attackers operated unchallenged.
Angry residents, including youths and traders, took to the streets, blocking roads and demanding urgent intervention from security agencies. The protesters lamented what they described as repeated attacks and the lack of adequate security presence in the community.
“We are no longer safe in our own homes. If this can happen in broad daylight, then nobody is safe,” one of the protesters said.
The demonstrators called on the Ondo State Government and security agencies to intensify patrols, rescue the kidnapped woman, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Residents, however, vowed to continue their protest until concrete steps are taken to address the security challenges facing the community.
