Tension in Katsina as Residents Capture and Kill Alleged Bandits’ Informer

Tension gripped the Karfi community in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State on Tuesday evening after residents captured and killed a man suspected to be an informant for bandits.

According to security analyst Bakatsine, who shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), the suspect allegedly confessed to assisting bandits in planning and executing attacks on multiple communities, including Karfi, Tashar-Fulani, and Layin Minister.

He also admitted to being directly involved in the kidnapping of a woman identified as Hajiyar Buroni, whom he reportedly abducted using a motorcycle.

During his capture, residents found charms and an incense pot in his possession — items often associated with spiritual protection in criminal activities.

“Yesterday evening, residents caught and killed a bandits' informer in Karfi, Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State,” Bakatsine posted.
“He confessed to coordinating attacks on Karfi, Tashar-Fulani, Layin Minister, and admitted to kidnapping a woman. He was found with charms and an incense pot.”

The incident has sparked discussions around growing frustration in local communities over recurring insecurity and what many view as slow or inadequate responses from security agencies.

It comes just hours after a separate attack in Yar Santa, Safana LGA, where bandits abducted several residents — mostly women and children — during a night raid.

Katsina State has remained one of the hardest-hit areas in northern Nigeria, plagued by banditry and kidnappings. The state government and federal security forces continue to face pressure from citizens to take more decisive action.
