REPS SEEK AUDIT OF RECOVERED ASSETS SINCE 1999

The House of Representatives has called for a thorough forensic audit of all assets and funds recovered from corruption cases by successive Nigerian governments since the return to democracy in 1999.

The resolution was unanimously adopted on Wednesday following a motion moved by Hon. Sada Soli and supported by several lawmakers.

The lower chamber expressed concern over the lack of transparency in the management and utilisation of recovered public assets, which run into several billions of naira and numerous properties.

The House directed the Auditor-General of the Federation to commence the audit immediately and report back within three months.

It also mandated its Committees on Anti-Corruption, Public Accounts, and Justice to monitor the process and ensure compliance.

Lawmakers argued that Nigerians have the right to know the true status and utilisation of recovered looted funds and assets over the past 27 years.
