REPS PUSH AVIATION LAW OVERHAUL AS NCAA RECORDS ₦1.13TN REVENUE

The House of Representatives has renewed calls for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s aviation laws as concerns grow over regulatory effectiveness and the management of revenue within the sector.

The lawmakers’ position comes as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reported revenue of about ₦1.13 trillion, prompting renewed attention to the agency’s financial responsibilities and regulatory functions.

The proposed legal overhaul is expected to address gaps in the existing aviation framework and strengthen the ability of regulators to respond to emerging challenges in the industry.

Lawmakers said an updated legal framework would help improve accountability, safety standards, regulatory efficiency, and coordination among agencies operating within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The move also comes amid broader efforts to modernise the country’s aviation infrastructure and improve the experience of passengers and industry operators.

Aviation stakeholders have consistently called for clearer regulations and stronger institutional capacity, particularly as Nigeria seeks to attract investment and position its aviation industry as a major contributor to economic growth.

The reported revenue generated by the NCAA has further increased calls for greater transparency in the management and utilisation of funds within the sector.

The House is expected to engage relevant aviation authorities and industry stakeholders as discussions around the proposed amendments continue.

Lawmakers said the ultimate objective is to create a stronger regulatory environment capable of supporting a safer, more efficient, and financially sustainable aviation industry.
