REPS ISSUE FINAL SUMMONS TO ACCOUNTANT-GENERAL OVER REPEATED SNUB, THREATEN SANCTIONS

The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee has issued a final summons to the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, over his continued refusal to honour invitations and provide required documents for ongoing oversight investigations.

Committee Chairman, Bamidele Salam, expressed displeasure at the AGF’s “unbecoming” conduct during a sitting on Tuesday, describing it as an affront to the National Assembly’s constitutional oversight responsibilities. The committee directed Ogunjimi to appear in person on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Lawmakers warned that failure to comply would attract severe sanctions, including possible contempt proceedings and other constitutional measures. The summons relates to audit queries and financial accountability matters involving several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The development underscores growing tensions between the legislature and executive agencies over transparency in public fund management. The committee has also summoned heads of six other MDAs as part of the probe.

Analysts view the move as part of the 10th Assembly’s determination to strengthen legislative oversight and ensure accountability in the utilisation of public resources.
