Popular Nigerian musician, Slimcase, has sparked debate in the music industry after declaring that Afrobeats is becoming boring due to the constant flood of new songs and albums.

In a post shared via his Instagram story, Slimcase urged Afrobeats artists to slow down their music output, warning that oversaturation is reducing the genre’s excitement and creativity.

He compared the situation to international superstar Rihanna, who has taken a long break from releasing music but remains relevant through other ventures.

“Too many songs and albums. Una too dey put una self for pressure for this Niger sha. Take a chill pill and be like Rihanna. Do other things, come back to give us a fresh vibe,” Slimcase wrote in pidgin.

The “Shaku Shaku” crooner added that the constant release of singles and albums is “gradually killing Afrobeats,” stressing that artists should focus on quality rather than quantity.

“Your sounds are getting boring because dem be coming too much in a year. I owe dem a song this year and that is it. It is only God that is new every morning. Everyday, and every second singles & albums dey kiiii Afrobeats gradually. It is not fun anymore,” he added.

His comments have stirred mixed reactions among fans and fellow entertainers, with some agreeing that Afrobeats is becoming repetitive, while others argue that the genre’s consistency is what keeps it globally relevant.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
