David Raya has disclosed that he was close to joining FC Bayern Munich before eventually moving to Arsenal FC.
The Spain international made the revelation while speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup final clash against Manchester City scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium.
Raya explained that before Arsenal submitted their offer, negotiations with Bayern Munich had progressed significantly and a move to the Bundesliga giants was a real possibility.
According to the goalkeeper, events ultimately took a different turn when Arsenal stepped in with a bid, leading him to join the North London side instead.
“I was very close to joining another club before Arsenal came in,” Raya said. “Fortunately, that move didn’t happen because Arsenal made an offer. The club I was close to joining was Bayern Munich.”
The 30-year-old initially joined Arsenal on loan from Brentford FC before the move was made permanent in 2024.
Since arriving at the Emirates Stadium, Raya has established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper under manager Mikel Arteta. His consistent performances between the posts have been key for Arsenal as they compete across domestic competitions.
Raya will now be aiming to help Arsenal secure silverware when they face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
