RAMAPHOSA TAKES MEDICAL REST AFTER RETURNING FROM BRICS SUMMIT
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has temporarily withdrawn from public engagements after falling ill following his return from the BRICS Summit in India. The South African Presidency announced that Ramaphosa returned to the country on Monday and was advised by his medical team to rest and recover.
The Presidency said the President had been booked off from public engagements because of his condition. It added that Ramaphosa had asked members of his Cabinet to represent him at scheduled events where necessary, allowing government activities to continue during his period of rest.
No details were provided about the nature of Ramaphosa’s illness or how long he is expected to remain away from his official engagements. The Presidency’s statement focused on his recovery and did not indicate that there had been any major complication.
Ramaphosa had travelled to New Delhi for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit, where South Africa participated alongside other member and partner countries in discussions on international cooperation, economic development and global affairs. He returned to South Africa on Monday following the summit.
The President’s temporary absence comes as his administration continues with its domestic and international responsibilities. Government ministers are expected to handle engagements that require presidential representation while Ramaphosa follows medical advice to rest before resuming his public schedule.
