PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY: ESSENTIAL PREVENTION AND PRECAUTIONARY GUIDELINES AGAINST EBOLA VIRUS INFECTION
Health authorities reiterate personal hygiene, dietary precautions, and infection control measures following a confirmed imported case in Abuja
Following the confirmation of an imported Ebola Virus Disease case in the Federal Capital Territory, public health experts and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) have issued comprehensive guidance to aid citizens in minimizing infection risks.
Health agencies emphasize that rigorous personal hygiene remains the primary line of defense, urging the public to practice regular handwashing with soap and clean water or utilize alcohol-based hand sanitizers, particularly after visiting public spaces or caring for ill individuals.
To prevent potential zoonotic transmission, health authorities advise avoiding contact with wild animals, especially fruit bats, primates, and rodents, while ensuring that all meat products are thoroughly cooked before consumption.
Citizens are further advised to avoid direct physical contact with bodily fluids, including blood, saliva, sweat, or vomit, of individuals exhibiting symptoms such as sudden high fever, severe headache, muscle pain, vomiting, or unexplained bleeding.
The Ministry of Health reassures the public that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes, advising anyone experiencing suspicious symptoms or who has had recent contact with travelers from affected regions to self-isolate immediately and contact national health helplines for swift medical evaluation.
