PRP PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT CHALLENGES OPPOSITION TO PRESENT CLEAR 2027 AGENDA

A chieftain of the People’s Redemption Party and presidential aspirant, Yakubu Kingsley, has urged opposition candidates preparing for the 2027 presidential election to clearly explain what they intend to do differently if elected. Kingsley said Nigerians should be given enough information to assess the various proposals being put forward ahead of the election. He argued that candidates should go beyond criticising the current administration and present practical alternatives capable of addressing the country’s challenges.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kingsley said presidential candidates should explain how their proposed policies would be implemented, the resources that would be required and the results Nigerians should expect. He said election campaigns should place greater emphasis on ideas, policies, programmes and practical solutions rather than personal attacks, political exchanges and the pursuit of political power. According to him, voters need to understand not only what candidates oppose but also the specific programmes they intend to introduce if given the opportunity to govern.

The PRP chieftain said the removal of an incumbent president should not, by itself, be presented as a national development agenda. He argued that a presidential election should give citizens the opportunity to compare different ideas, policies, programmes and implementation strategies. Kingsley therefore called on opposition candidates to explain why Nigerians should support their alternatives and provide enough details for voters to assess the feasibility and expected impact of their proposals.

Kingsley also raised questions about the mechanisms candidates would use to deliver their promises, including monitoring structures, funding requirements, expected outcomes and timelines. He said these details should form an important part of the national conversation ahead of the 2027 election. Rather than relying mainly on political rhetoric, he urged candidates to provide concrete proposals that would allow Nigerians to examine how their plans would work in practice and what measurable results they would be expected to produce.

He further called on political parties, candidates, their supporters and the media to focus the 2027 electoral debate on policies, practical solutions and alternative approaches to national development. Kingsley said the election should not be reduced to a contest over who leaves office or who occupies the presidency, but should provide an opportunity for Nigerians to discuss the country's future. He maintained that citizens deserve to hear the plans of the different candidates, examine the alternatives and understand how each proposed programme would be delivered.
