Tension erupted in Akwa Ibom State on Friday as protests broke out over the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Aggrieved party members and supporters reportedly took to the streets to express dissatisfaction over the conduct of the party’s primary process, alleging unfair treatment and dissatisfaction with emerging outcomes.

The protesters called on the party leadership to ensure transparency, fairness, and adherence to internal democratic processes in the selection of candidates.

Some of the demonstrators accused the leadership of favouritism and warned that any imposition of candidates could affect the party’s unity ahead of the general elections.

Security operatives were reportedly deployed to strategic locations to prevent the situation from escalating and to maintain order within affected areas.

APC officials in the state are yet to issue an official statement on the protest, but the development adds to growing tensions surrounding party primaries across the country.

The incident comes amid ongoing internal party contests as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
