PROJECT ACT TRAINS KWARA DEAF COMMUNITY IN FIRST AID SKILLS

In a groundbreaking initiative, Project ACT has successfully trained members of the deaf community in Kwara State on basic first aid and emergency response skills.

The programme, which concluded on Tuesday, equipped over 40 participants with practical knowledge on handling common medical emergencies, CPR, wound care, and accident response using sign language interpreters.

Project ACT Coordinator, Mr. Adebayo Oladimeji, explained that the training was designed to bridge the communication gap often faced by persons with hearing impairment during medical emergencies.

“Every life matters. Empowering the deaf community with these lifesaving skills will reduce response time and save more lives,” he said.

Participants expressed joy and gratitude, with many noting that the training boosted their confidence to support family and community members in distress.

The Kwara State Chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) commended the organisation for the inclusive gesture and called for more such interventions across the state.

Project ACT hinted at plans to expand the training to other vulnerable groups in Kwara.
