Prince Harry has said he wants to repair his strained relationships with his father, King Charles III, and older brother, Prince William, describing reconciliation as an important step towards moving forward.

The Duke of Sussex made the remarks in an interview with GQ published on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in which he discussed family disagreements, grief and the importance of letting go of past conflicts.

Asked whether he grieved his complicated relationships with his father and brother, Harry acknowledged that the situation was painful and said family disagreements were experiences many people could relate to.

He said the public’s interest in the royal family’s rift could also help others dealing with similar problems in their own families.

“Some people don’t want it to work out – I want it to work out,” Harry said.

“With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile. That’s the key point,” he added.

Harry also acknowledged that repairing strained relationships does not necessarily mean forgetting what happened. He said the effects of past disagreements could remain, but encouraged people to reconsider how they viewed those experiences and make an effort to move forward.

“Scars stick around forever,” he said, adding that letting go of the past was something he would encourage others to do, particularly when previous experiences continued to affect their everyday lives.

“For me, there’s enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives than to continue with issues with family,” he added.

Following the interview, a spokesperson for Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, clarified that his comment about some people not wanting reconciliation was not directed at Prince William or any other member of the royal family. The spokesperson said the remark was made in a general context.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as senior working members of the British royal family in 2020 and moved to the United States. Their departure, subsequent interviews and Harry’s memoir, Spare, contributed to public scrutiny of the family’s divisions.

Harry has previously spoken about wanting to improve his relationship with his father and brother. However, the extent to which the latest comments will lead to renewed contact or a lasting reconciliation remains unclear.

In the same interview, Harry discussed bringing his family back to the United Kingdom and giving his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the opportunity to attend British schools. He said the experience was important to him because it would allow them to grow up with a different cultural perspective.

He also spoke about the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and his experiences with grief and therapy, explaining that working through difficult experiences had helped him reflect on his past.
