The Kaduna State Police Command has announced restrictions on heavy-duty vehicles ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit for the launch of his presidential campaign.

The measure affects trailers, tankers, lorries, articulated vehicles and other heavy-duty vehicles travelling through Kaduna metropolis.

Commissioner of Police Muhammad Rabiu said the restriction was agreed upon after consultations with security officials and transport unions. He explained that it would help reduce congestion and allow easier movement during the event.

Rabiu clarified that the restriction applies to heavy-duty vehicles, while other motorists and commuters can continue their journeys subject to traffic controls.

The police also announced alternative routes for affected vehicles. Trucks travelling between Abuja and Zaria were directed to use designated diversion routes through the Eastern Bypass and connecting roads to avoid the city centre.

Security arrangements include the deployment of police officers, tactical teams, bomb disposal personnel, traffic officers and crowd-control units. The command is working with the military, the Department of State Services and other agencies to protect participants and residents.

Rabiu advised people without business at the campaign venue to avoid the area and designated security zones.

He also warned against political violence, intimidation and carrying dangerous weapons, urging party supporters to conduct themselves peacefully.

Residents were encouraged to cooperate with security personnel and report suspicious activities as preparations continued for the presidential visit.
