PRESIDENCY WARNS AGAINST FAKE PRESIDENTIAL GROUP CIRCULATING ONLINE
The Presidency has warned members of the public to disregard a non-existent group allegedly operating under the name of the President, describing it as fake and misleading.
In a statement, officials said the group is not affiliated with the Presidency or any legitimate government structure, and urged Nigerians to be cautious of individuals or platforms using the President’s name to solicit attention, influence, or financial contributions.
The government noted that fraudulent groups often emerge online to exploit public trust, particularly during periods of heightened political and economic activity. It stressed that all official communications from the Presidency are issued only through verified channels and accredited media platforms.
Citizens were advised to verify any suspicious information before sharing or acting on it, and to report impersonation or scam-related activities to relevant security agencies.
Authorities reiterated that the administration remains committed to transparency and will continue to clamp down on individuals or groups engaged in misinformation or identity fraud involving government officials.
The statement also encouraged Nigerians to rely only on verified government sources for accurate updates on policies, programmes, and official engagements.
As online impersonation cases continue to rise, officials say stronger monitoring and public awareness campaigns will be intensified to protect citizens from fraudsters.
