The Presidency has called for the expansion of electric vehicle initiatives across Nigeria as part of efforts to modernise the country’s transportation system.

The call was made as the Federal Government highlighted ongoing efforts to increase the use of electric vehicles and other cleaner transportation options across the country.

The Presidency said greater adoption of electric vehicles would require stronger investment in infrastructure, including charging facilities, as well as increased participation from the private sector.

The initiative forms part of broader government efforts to develop alternative transportation systems and reduce the pressure of high transport costs on Nigerians.

The Federal Government has also been promoting compressed natural gas-powered transportation alongside electric mobility programmes.

Officials have said the expansion of cleaner transportation options could support economic activity, create jobs and encourage investment in new areas of the mobility sector.

The Presidency urged private investors and other stakeholders to support the development of the infrastructure required for wider electric vehicle adoption.

The government’s broader transport strategy includes collaboration with state governments to expand alternative-energy transportation projects across the country.
