PREMIER LEAGUE EXPLAINS WHY REFEREE ALLOWED MBEUMO’S GOAL FOR MAN UNITED DESPITE MAC ALLISTER’S HEAD INJURY

The Premier League has explained why referee Michael Oliver allowed play to continue during Manchester United’s opening goal against Liverpool on Sunday, despite Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister suffering a head injury in the buildup.

United took an early lead when Bryan Mbeumo struck inside two minutes at Old Trafford, even as Mac Allister lay on the pitch holding his head after a collision with teammate Virgil van Dijk.

Referees typically stop play immediately for potential head injuries, but in this case, Oliver did not intervene. According to the Premier League match centre, the referee “did not see the injury” before the goal was scored.

The explanation has sparked debate among pundits and fans alike.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher criticised the decision on Sky Sports, saying:

“He was on the floor holding his head… Arne Slot is not happy with what happened with Mac Allister. I’m surprised Michael Oliver hasn’t pulled that back with a head injury.”

Similarly, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live:

“There’s contention about this goal among the Liverpool fans. Even though the elbow came from Van Dijk, play should still be stopped for a head injury. Manchester United won’t care.”

The incident adds to a growing list of controversial refereeing decisions this season, with calls for clearer communication and stricter enforcement of head injury protocols in the Premier League.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
