POWER FIRM RECOVERS BILLIONS WORTH OF EQUIPMENT FROM PORTS

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited has recovered several consignments of critical power equipment that had been abandoned at various seaports across Nigeria.

The recovery was facilitated by the Nigerian Ports Authority following an intervention aimed at clearing the equipment and resolving bottlenecks that had delayed its movement from the ports.

NDPHC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije, said the intervention had helped the company avoid potential losses running into billions of naira.

She said the equipment was required for the implementation of critical power infrastructure projects across the country, stressing that prolonged delays could have affected project timelines, increased costs and slowed efforts to improve electricity supply.

Adighije commended the NPA for facilitating the recovery and clearance of the equipment, describing efficient logistics as essential to the successful delivery of power projects.

She called for stronger collaboration between the NDPHC, NPA and other agencies operating across the energy and maritime sectors to prevent bureaucratic bottlenecks from delaying critical infrastructure projects.

The NDPHC boss noted that timely clearance would enable contractors and project teams to access equipment needed to execute ongoing projects within schedule.

Responding, NPA Managing Director Abubakar Dantsoho reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to partnerships that support national development and the growth of Nigeria’s power sector.

He said reliable electricity remained important to economic growth, industrialisation and improved living standards.

The development highlights the importance of efficient port operations to Nigeria’s infrastructure projects, particularly where delays in cargo clearance can increase project costs and affect the delivery of essential services.

NDPHC said it would continue working with the NPA to strengthen coordination and ensure that critical power equipment moves efficiently through the nation’s ports.
