POPE LEO HONOURS LATE POPE FRANCIS ON HIS FIRST DEATH ANNIVERSARY
One year after the death of Pope Francis, his successor, Pope Leo XIV, has paid tribute to the late pontiff, urging the Catholic faithful worldwide to continue advancing his message of mercy, fraternity, and service.
In a post shared on X on Tuesday, Pope Leo described the anniversary as the “birth into heaven” of Pope Francis, reflecting on his legacy and global impact.
He said Pope Francis’ teachings and actions remain deeply etched in the hearts of believers across the world.
“We carry on his legacy by always proclaiming the joy of the Gospel, announcing God’s mercy, and promoting fraternity among all men and women,” he wrote.
Pope Francis, who led the Roman Catholic Church for several years, died on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.
Following his death, Robert Francis Prevost became the new Pope in May 2025, taking the name Pope Leo XIV, becoming the first American to hold the papacy.
The Vatican has continued to mark the late pontiff’s influence, particularly his focus on humility, inclusion, and outreach to the poor and marginalised.
